Mr. Florijn (pronounced Floor-ane) holds a BA in Music and Mathematics from the University of Massachusetts, where he also received written recommendation for Music Improvisation. Michel studied formal Classical and Jazz Flute in both Europe and the United States. His teachers in Europe include Umberto Barelli and Ed van Leer (Classical), and Wallace Shorts (Jazz), while his teachers in the U.S. include Patti Shinehaus (Smith College), Bill Wittig (Principal flautist of the Springfield Symphony Orchestra, Springfield, MA, retired), and Ellen Deerberg-Fisher (Bryn Mawr Conservatory of Music). He has been teaching music for over 10 years and bases beginner lessons on classical repertoire.
